I Russian also live in Russia. I NEVER saw vodka advertising in our country, at least I do not remember the such! Even if to me would suggest to present that advertising – it to me would not seem such, not cheap.

Actually, I can tell the difference between “Russian Standard” and other vodkas based on flavor profile alone.
RS is VERY smooth, like heavy water, with a slightly sugary finish. It has much less of an “alcohol” flavor than most other vodkas. It is also sold here in the U.S. as “mid shelf”.
“Top shelf” vodkas (like Grey Goose) are not as good IMO. Most have the “flavor profile” of rubbing alcohol.

Love this Vodka. I paid 50 bucks for a so called “premium” Vodka here in Australia and it tasted like Vaginal backwash compared to Russian Standard and RS half the price!!! It’s also smoother than the “popular” brands like Smirnoff and Absolut. Definatly the Vodka to have if you wan’t a drink straight or on the rocks.
Smirnoff isn’t the best. Russian standard is the same price I think, or slightly more expensive, but is a lot better.
In the UK this vodka is everywhere but yet the most expensive but if you want good russian vodka get this or smirnnoff for the good vodka thats slighly cheaper(not my preference).

Laughs, maybe the term ‘top shelf’ is lost upon you; basically it means good. In America, the more expensive and hopefully better tasting beverages are put on the top shelf in stores.
I have answered your question, context clues, my dear Watson. But here it is again: they taste good… that’s the characteristic that makes them top shelf. Russian Standard is good as it tastes similar to the two brands I’ve mentioned; not as good but close enough for the price. Out of space-now answer mine

do you know what good vodka tastes like? can you tell the difference in a blind tasting between ‘top shelf’ and others? and you still haven’t answered my question… what characteristic make certain vodkas ‘top shelf’ and whats so good about russian standard? Belvedere and reyka are made from different types of grain and different distillation process, etc..resulting in two very different products…what flavour profile do you look for in a vodka? look forward to your answers

What do you think ‘tastes top shelf’ means? It tastes similar to top shelf vodkas; two brands of which I consider to be are Belvedere and Reyka. What do you consider to be a top shelf vodka, Mr. Bartender? Are you serving the vodka cold? Do your patrons know what good vodka tastes like? What kind of establishment to you tend bar at? Obviously these are important variables!
@eyeheartet…actually, it is not. i’m a bartender and we stocked it for a while..until noone wanted it cos its shit, it never does great in blind tastings either…and may i ask what does ‘tastes top shelf’ mean? what do you consider a good tasting vodka? this stuff is nothing but glamified paint stripper…imho

Bought it last night. I doubt you can get it at the provincially owned stores (BC Liquors doesn’t have it, we had to buy it at a privately owned one).
